Chennai:Â A total of 25 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were deployed in Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh and Pududcherry to take up relief and rescue operations in Cyclone Navir hit areas.
An official release here said 25 NDRF teams are deployed on the likely affected coastal areas of Tamilnadu, Pondicherry and
Andhra Pradesh after consultation with state authorities.
Out of these 15 teams have been deployed at costal districts of Tamil Nadu, including six teams in Cuddalore, three at Villupuram, two each at Chennai and Chengalpattu and one each at Mayiladuthrai and Nagapattinam districts.
Besides, three teams were deployed at Puducherry and one team at Karaikal.
Moreover, to tackle the cyclone situation, Â three NDRF teams have also been deployed at Nellore district and one team at Chittoor of Andhra Pradesh.
Considering the severity of the situation, additional five NDRF teams were also kept on alert at Vijayawada (AP) NDRF Base and two teams at Visakhapatnam for any immediate backup as per requirement.
In view of the current Covid-19 scenario, NDRF teams were equipped with appropriate PPE/special kits and strictly following Covid-19 guidlines.
Director General, NDRF Satya Narayan Pradhan is personally monitoring the situation and all efforts are being made in close collaboration with the state authorities to ensure zero casualty and minimum damage to life and property.
The NDRF headquarters is in close touch with various authorities and stakeholders and a 24×7, NDRF control room was monitoring the situation round the clock.
