Chennai: Rains have brought back the perennial waterlogging problems in many areas of south Chennai, including Velacheri and Kottivakkam.
‘There is no storm water drain and there is no drainage system provided by the public authorities. The problem of water stagnation is compounded when it gets mixed with sewage emanating a health hazardous foul smell – the primary culprit being indiscriminate raising of road level and the consequent result of part submergence of low level houses,’ says Srinivasan, a resident of Natco Colony Middle Street.
The mandatory amenities have been denied to the residents despite the fact that substantial funds allotted for this purpose, he adds.
‘Our numerous representations have not elicited any positive result so far,’ says another resident.
