Chennai: Actor Rajinikanth had recently announced that he will be launching a new party and subsequently contest the 2021 State Assembly polls.
Now reports have emerged that the party name is likely to be Makkal Sevai Katchi, with an autorickshaw symbol.
According to sources, the Election Commission has received an application from a party named Makkal Sevai Katchi, with Rajinikanth’s name mentioned in it.
It had also sought to contest in all 234 seats. “The application had asked for the two-finger or the Baba pose as its symbol, but the EC is said to have rejected the same, considering that it clashes with the Indian National Congress’ hand symbol. The party had therefore been granted its second preference which is the autorickshaw,” reports said, quoting sources.
It has also been revealed that the said party was already registered under the name Anaithindhia Makkal Shakthi Kazhagam, but was renamed as Makkal Sevai Katchi a few months ago.
The superstar meanwhile, is expected to make a formal announcement on 31 December.
On the other hand, actor Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) had failed to get its torch symbol approved by the Election Commission.
