Chennai: Tamilnadu government today granted permission to conduct public meetings and events with 50 per cent capacity in the State from 19 December.
Announcing the relaxation, a statement released by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said permission is being given to hold political and public meetings, religious gatherings, sports and cultural events with a maximum of 50 per cent capacity in open places, from 19 December.
He further said that organisers will have to secure prior permission from the district administration and Corporation officials to conduct such meetings.
Palaniswami also requested the public to cooperate with the Covid norms of the government and follow them everywhere.
He said people should wear mask when outside, wash their hands at regular intervals and follow social distancing at public places.
It may be noted that various cultural events are organised in the city during the month of December.
The Tamilnadu government has already permitted social, political, entertainment and religious gatherings with a maximum of 50 per cent capacity of the hall capacity or with a ceiling of 200 persons in closed spaces from 1 to 31 December.
Palaniswami said the government had been proactively working to protect people from coronavirus and extend relief. The transmission had been brought under control due to the best efforts of the government and support of the people, he said.
