Chennai: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan, who hit the campaign trail in Madurai on Tuesday said that he is open to a political alliance with actor Rajinikanth, who is all set to make his electoral debut, provided their ideologies match.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “Political change is necessary. We are just a phone call away. If our ideology is similar and if it would benefit the people, we are ready to set aside our egos and cooperate with each other.”
He however sought for a more clear explanation of the Superstar’s ideology. “Let Rajini speak. We will help each other if required. We have said this before, nothing new to be said now,” Kamal said.
He also invoked the welfare legacy of iconic leader late M G Ramachandran and said the former chief minister belonged to the whole of Tamilnadu.
Refraining from naming the AIADMK, he said the party was annoyed after he highlighted MGR in his recent address to a gathering and they claimed the leader belonged only to them.
The late leader, however, belonged to the whole of Tamilnadu and not just to a party, he said.
It was the reason why the people adored him as ‘Makkal Thilagam’ (leader of the people) notwithstanding his party affiliation, be it the DMK or later, the AIADMK which he founded, he noted.
