Chennai: In a bid to appease the farmers who are protesting near Delhi for almost a month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the agitators in Madhya Pradesh today.
According to sources, Modiās address at 2 pm will be via video link and will be telecast to around 23,000 villages.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had tweeted in Hindi, “Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar has shared his feelings by writing a letter to farmer brothers and sisters and has tried to start a humble dialogue. It is my appeal that all the farmers must read this. It is my appeal to people of this country to propagate this message”.
The letter was released after a party meeting that was attended by Union Minister Amit Shah, Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman, Tomar and party chief JP Nadda.
In the letter, the government said, “In the last 20 to 25 years, show any statement of any farmer leader or organisation that said farmers should not have an option to get better price for their produce”.
It also assured the farmers that the mandis where they get Minimum Support Price for their produce will remain.
“Farmers will own the land. Not even an inch of farmers’ land will be taken away,” the letter read.
A day ago, the Supreme Court suggested the formation of a committee to handle the issue.
The committee, the court said, should have āindependent members with knowledge of agricultureā who will hear both sides and submit a report with its recommendations.
