Alagiri vows to stop Stalin from becoming CM

Madurai: Expelled DMK leader MK Alagiri, elder son of former Chief Minister and late DMK president M Karunanidhi and brother of current DMK chief M K Stalin, on Sunday held discussions with his close assoiciates and supporters in Madurai over his next course of political action and said he might make an announcement soon.

“Stalin can never become the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, my supporters and I will ensure it, and till this day I do not know what I did wrong to be dismissed from the DMK,” he said.

Alagiri also said that he would announce his next move soon, and that his supporters should accept any decision by him.

He said he was never behind posts and claimed such responsibilities were forced on him by his father Karunanidhi.

Recalling the bypoll victory in Tirumangalam in 2009 in Madurai under his leadership, when DMK was in power in the state, Alagiri said he ensured his party won by a margin of 40,000 votes.

Hitting out at Stalin, he said, “There are posters hailing you as the future Chief Minister but you can never become Chief Minister. My associates and supporters will never let you become one.”

Alagiri, a former Union Minister, was once the party’s organising secretary of Tamilnadu’s southern districts and Madurai was his bastion. In 2014, Karunanidhi expelled him for violating party discipline.
