Chennai suburban trains resume full-fledged services

Chennai: Today, it was no ‘Monday morning blues’ for the commuters of Chennai suburban train services. For, the Southern Railway, starting today, is operating full-fledged suburban train services, like in pre-Covid times.

A press release issued by the Chennai Division of Southern Railway said a total of 660 services would be operated across all the four sections to meet the increased demand and to maintain social distancing measures.

Earlier, SR had relaxed conditions to allow women passengers on EMUs during non-peak hours.

In the initial days of the pandemic lockdown, the Southern Railway has been running suburban train services exclusively for the railway employees as Workmen Special in the Chennai region.

With the restrictions being relaxed in phases, taking into account the falling number of new Covid-19 cases, Southern Railway has also been granting relaxations in the pattern of train services in the suburban sector.
