K A Sengottaiyan

Chennai: Tamilnadu School Education and Youth Welfare Minister K A Sengottaiyan on Monday said a decision on reopening schools in the State shut since the Covid-19 enforced lockdown, would be taken by the Chief Minister after suggestions are obtained from parents.

It has been informed that all schools are directed to conduct parents’ meetings on 8 January to obtain their views on the reopening, for classes ten and twelve in view of the board exams.

In a circular sent to chief educational officers, school education director S Kannappan said, “The meetings should be held following the SOPs. To avoid crowding, different time slots can be allotted”.

Schools in the state have been closed since the nation-wide lockdown was imposed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in March last. Practical examinations for classes 10 to 12 will however be conducted and the schedule would be released soon.

Early last month, the state government had announced that half yearly exams for students in government and government-aided schools, were cancelled due to the pandemic. The syllabus for classes upto 12th standard too had been reduced after getting the approval of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
