
Chennai: A high level team from the Election Commission of India (ECI) led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora, which arrived here on Wednesday to review the preparedness for the ensuing elections to the Tamilnadu Assembly slated to be held in April-May, continued its discussions for the second consecutive day today.
According to sources, the EC team started consultations with officials from Income Tax department this morning. CEC and others will also meet top officials of security agencies.
Apart from Arora, the team comprises Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar, Secretary General Umesh Sinha, Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Assistant Director General Sheyphali B Sharan, Director Pankaj Srivastava and EC Secretary Malay Mallick.
Tamilnadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo and other officials received Arora and his team at the airport here, when they landed at 11 am from New Delhi Wednesday.
After holding separate meeting with political parties, Arora and ECI officials would hold a meeting with the Sahoo and the Police Nodal Officer.
It was followed by a meeting with District Electoral Officers and the Superintendents of Police.
Arora and his team would leave for Puducherry where they would hold a series of meetings and review the election preparedness.
Based on the outcome of the team and taking various factors into consideration, including the present Covid pandemic situation, the ECI would finalise the poll schedule.
