Chennai: Three workers were killed and a woman suffered burn injuries in a fire accident at a fireworks manufacturing unit at Gurumurthynaicknan patti near Sivakasi in Virudhur district of Tamilnadu.
While one person identified as Pudhuraja died on the spot when the fire broke out last evening, two others, Natarajan and Veerasamy, who sustained more than 80 per cent burns, succumbed at the Sivakasi Government hospital on Sunday, sources said.
The injured woman, Panchavarnam, who sustained about 25 per cent burns, was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The fire broke out due to friction while handling the chemical dipped match sticks at the dipping room in Durga Color Match unit.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Virudhunagar put out the fire in the dipping room.
Police have registered three cases against the owner Visakh. The is the fifth incident in the last two months. Recently more than 20 people were killed in an explosion at a cracker manufacturing in the district.
