Chennai: With Covid-19 figures witnessing a sudden increase in Tamilnadu, districts like Chennai, Chengalpattu and Coimbatore are posting high number of infections.
Chengalpattu, which has been recording less than 100 cases since November-end, reported 103 fresh cases on Wednesday, while in Coimbatore that last reported over 100 cases in December, 107 persons tested positive for the infection.
While Chennaiās daily count stood at 395, the cases exceeded 100 in both Chengalpattu and Coimbatore districts after a span of three to four months.
On Wednesday, State Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan asked people not to believe in rumours of another lockdown.
Speaking to mediapersons after reviewing the corona ward at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Radhakrishnan warned that there are chances of gradual increase of coronavirus cases in the State.
“There might be rise due to the political meetings and family functions held in the State. People are not wearing masks during the election campaign,” he said.
He said that the organisers of any meeting should ensure that all Covid protocols are followed. “Organisers should ensure that participants wear mask at all times,” he added.
He further said that number of people wearing masks has increased in the past three days.
“People should not be lethargic. People with symptoms should immediately get checked. It is getting difficult to control the spread of virus in Chennai, Coimbatore, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Tiruppur and Thanjavur districts,” he added.
