Chennai: As many as 6,665 sets of nominations (as of 11 pm on Friday) were received by the Election Commission for the 6 April Tamilnadu Assembly elections.
Of them, 986 nominations have been received from women candidates and three from transpersons.
Scrutiny of nominations will be conducted by election officials in all 234 constituencies of the State today and papers that don’t qualify will be rejected.
For the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha by-poll, which had necessitated following the death of Congress MP H Vasanthakumar, a total of 12 nominations, including a woman, have been filed.
The seat will witness a direct fight between former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan of BJP and Vasanthakumar’s son Vijay Vasanth of Congress.
