Bhopal: A road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior claimed at least 13 lives after a bus collided with an auto-rickshaw. Out of the 13, 12 have been identified as women.
The accident happened around 7 am today. The 12 women were cooks at an anganwadi centre, Gwalior SP Amit Sanghi said.
While eight women and the auto driver died on the spot, the others died due to their injuries in a hospital, he said.
The State government has announced Rs four lakh compensation to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the accident.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted in Hindi: “The horrific accident caused by a collision between a bus and an auto in Gwalior has claimed several precious lives and has brought great sorrow. I pray to God to give strength to the affected families. I and the people of the state stand with mourning families in this hour of grief. The state government will give Rs four lakh to the family of each victim and Rs 50,000 to the injured.”
