Chennai: Following the raids conducted at DMK’s Thiruvannamalai candidate E V Velu’s properties, I-T sleuths today carried out searches at places linked to DMK’s Karur candidate Senthil Balaji.
It is to be noted that DMK president M K Stalin is scheduled to campaign in Karur today.
It is said that the raids began last night and continued till early morning today.
Sources said that unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs seven crore were seized during the raids.
Meanwhile, raids continued for the second consecutive day at the properties belonging to Velu.
At least 3.5 crore in cash have been seized from the properties belonging to the politician so far, officials said. On Thursday, Income tax officials conducted searches at over 10 locations including Velu’s home in Thiruvannamalai, his constituency.
The 70-year-old is seeking re-election from the constituency. It is said that the raids at Velu’s properties are being carried out after a leaked audio in which a DMK cadre had accused Velu of owning eight educational institutions, spinning mill and 6,000 acres of land. The cadre also said that Velu was also financing Rs 500 crore. However, Velu had denied all these allegations already.
