Chennai: It is being speculated that partial lockdown at places which are witnessing high number of Covid-19 cases would be implemented in Tamilnadu after the Assembly elections.
‘Since the spread is increasing, restrictions will be imposed at containment zones and districts where there are more number of infections,’ sources said.
A final decision in this regard, however, would be taken at a high level meeting to be chaired by Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan.
In yet another day of sharp upward trend, Tamilnadu on Thursday registered 2,817 new cases, and the total number of inflections has touched 8,89,490.
The capital city of Chennai registered 1,083 cases in the last 24 hours.
With this, the total number of persons affected by the pandemic in the metropolis has touched 2,50,000.
As far as Chennai’s neighbouring districts are concerned, Chengalpattu today registered 258 new cases, Kancheepuram saw 115 infections in the last 24 hours, and Thiruvallur posted 158 positive cases.
