Chennai: Following the Income-Tax raids at DMK president M K Stalin’s daughter Senthamarai, the party petitioned the Election Commission seeking a direction to the BJP not to use and misuse their official resources to tarnish the DMK’s image.
In a complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner, DMK organising secretary R S Bharathi, MP, referring to the raids at Senthamarai’s house at Neelangarai on the ECR, said the income tax department has been used as a sword and as a pawn in the hands of the ruling BJP and there are no reasons as to why these searches are being conducted a few days before the polling on 6 April.
He said the public opinion and the feelings of entire Tamilnadu are in favour of DMK-led combine and all opinion polls have come out in favour of DMK party that they are going to form government after the Assembly elections.
Pointing out that Stalin has been seriously campaigning as to how the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and his cabinet Ministers are indulging in corruption, he said the intention of the AIADMK-BJP led alliance is to somehow or other tarnish the image of DMK.
Sensing that there is a massive victory for DMK in the ensuing elections, now the officials of the Income Tax department are misused by the ruling party to tarnish the image of the party and Stalin by such raids, Bharathi said and urged the CEC to direct the BJP party not to use and misuse their official resources to garner votes or tarnish the image of the DMK party as such activities are against Model code of conduct and amount to a corrupt practice under section 123(7) of the RP Act 1951.
