Chennai: Veteran filmmaker S P Muthuraman who gave several blockbusters in 1980s starring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, has been admitted to a private hospital with corona symptoms.
A medical bulletin from the hospital says, “He is suspected to have Covid-19 pneumonia and he is monitored by a team of doctors. His condition is stable.”
Muthuraman, who has directed 72 films in Tamil, is one of the most successful commercial filmmakers of southern cinema. He worked with actors Muthuraman, Jaishankar, Rajinikanth, Sivaji Ganesan, Vijayakanth and Kamal Haasan among others. He celebrated his birthday on Wednesday.
Muthuraman debuted as an assistant director in the film ‘Kalathur Kannamma’ (1960).
Since 1977, his association with Rajinikanth proved to be extremely successful, as they went on work together in 25 films. Muthuraman is mainly responsible for moulding Rajini’s career and turning him into a commercial star. He is also the associate producer of the Rajinikanth starrer ‘Sivaji’.
