Chennai: With Srivilliputhur Congress candidate PSW Madhava Rao (63), who was admitted with Covid symptoms at a private hospital in Madurai on 20 March, breathing his last on Sunday, there were questions about the possibilities of a by-poll in his constituency.
Asked about this, Tamilnadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said a by-election would follow if Madava Rao emerges victorious on 2 May.
The 63-year-old Congress candidate was admitted to the Apollo hospital in Madurai about two weeks ago for suspected Covid-19 induced pneumonia.
On Saturday his condition reportedly worsened following which he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. He passed away on Sunday morning, not having responded to treatment.
