Kolkata: In a controversial statement ahead of the West Bengal election, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee blamed BJP for the surge of Covid-19 cases in the State.
Addressing a public meeting, Banerjee linked the advent of the second Covid-19 wave to the alleged slow pace of vaccination in the country.
“If they had given the injection to everyone on time, this new wave of Corona would not have come. Do you know- they have brought scores of people from outside? They have brought all outsiders in the name of election campaigning and have spread the Covid infection here. Now, they are asking for votes,” she said.
Speaking on the Election Commission’s decision to prohibit her from campaigning for 24 hours, she said, “Is it a fault to ask Hindus, Muslims and others to vote together? What about Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is mocking me at every election meeting? Why is he not banned from campaigning?”
The Election Commission had barred Banerjee from campaigning for 24 hours from Monday 8 pm for her remarks against the central forces and a statement that had alleged religious overtones.
