Chennai: AIADMK joint coordinator and Leader of the Opposition in the Tamilnadu Assembly Edappadi K Palaniswami has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to secure nine fishermen from the State, who went missing in the Arabian Sea during the Taukte cyclonic storm.
In a letter to Modi, copies of which were released to the press here, he said nine fishermen from Nagapattinam district, who went for deep sea fishing in the Arabian Sea on 29 April, have not yet returned to Kochi.
“It is apprehended by their families and other fishermen that these nine fishermen would have been caught unaware in the Taukte cyclonic storm and they are worried about their safety,” he said.
Giving details of the name of the missing fishermen and their boat number, Palaniswami urged Modi to order an immediate search operation by the Indian Navy, IAF to locate them and come to their rescue.
