Ramanathapuram: As many as five skeletons have been found from the seashore at a village in Ramanathapuram district, prompting authorities to launch a probe.

Villagers of Valinokkam found the skeletal remains. Based on an alert from a villager, police conducted an inquiry and said the place could have been used as a burial ground earlier.

Police sources said they excavated the area and found four skeletons. However, only one of them could be recovered.

Various angles, including murder, were being probed, police said. The village has a population of 500 fishermen working with fishing companies.
