New Delhi: The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has started investigations into the alleged abduction of absconding diamantaire Mehul Choksi to neighbouring Dominica on a complaint filed by his lawyers, Prime Minister Gaston Browne told a local media outlet.
Browne said that Choksi’s lawyers gave the names of people involved in the alleged abduction to the police commissioner in a complaint, the Antigua News Room reported.
Meanwhile, Choksi, in an affidavit filed before the Dominican High Court, has claimed that he is a law-abiding citizen and will not escape from Dominica. Choksi was living in Antigua and Barbuda prior to his arrest in Dominica last month.
The Dominica police has claimed in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) that fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi was found seated in suspicious condition on the bayside near the Jetty at Toucarie Bay around 11.30 pm on 24 May. However, the police charged him with ‘illegal entry’ offence around 9 pm on 28 May, according to details of Dominicaâs police affidavits, reported Hindustan Times.
