Artistes come together for ‘Coronavai Jayippom’

Chennai: ‘Coronavai Jayippom’ is a series of performance videos featuring acclaimed traditional performing artistes.

The initiative raises awareness about Covid-19 precautions and protocols and spreads hope and positivity through the power of music and dance. The series is presented by Chennai UCCN, the city’s official branch under the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)’s Creative Cities Network (UCCN), and is powered by Aanmajothi, the cultural wing of Saraswathi Vidyalaya.

As an official ‘City of Music’, Chennai is one of only 246 cities in the world to be a member of UNESCO’s prestigious UCCN, a recognition that was conferred in 2017.

The videos to be launched in the ‘Coronavai Jayippon’ series feature Chinnaponnu Kumar (Kannadasan Award-winning folk artiste and playback singer), Simran Sivakumar (Bal Shree Honour-winning Bharatanatyam artiste and founder of choreography team Anartana) and Isaivaani (Gaana singer, member of The Casteless Collective and BBC 100 Women Award-winner), Gana Muthu (Gana and playback singer from Chennai, lead singer of the award winning musical group ” The Casteless Collective and a youtuber) and Abhishek Kumar (Stand up comedian based out of Chennai).
