Chennai: As the TASMAC liquor shops opened their shutters after a month, it was raining money from loyal customers, or kudimagans.
According to sources, on Monday, the day one of reopening of liquor outlets, liquor worth Rs 164.87 crore was sold across the State.
It is learnt that the Chennai region recorded sales of Rs 42.96 crore, the Tiruchi zone Rs 33.65 crore, Salem Rs 38.72 crore and Madurai Rs 49.54 crore.
In 27 districts, where the cases have shown a declining trend, life opened up with new normal on Monday as TASMAC liquor shops opened at 10 am and functioned till 5 pm.
Chief Minister M K Stalin said that TASMAC liquor shops have been reopened in the State amid much criticism.
In a video, Stalin said that the government is cautious that illicit liquor and duplicate alcohols should not spoil the health of those living in Tamilnadu.
“All shops will function by following the standard operating procedures. The relaxations will be cancelled if SOPs are flouted in the shops. People who violate the norms should understand that they are not only causing harm to themselves but also to the nation,” he said.
