Chennai: A health survey from Chennai recorded the alarming data of 53 per cent of children with unhealthy BMI.

More than 25,000 children across Chennai participated in Sportz Village’s 11th Annual Health Survey (AHS) which revealed that children are displaying poor fitness levels across India.

The nationwide survey covered 2,54,681 children in the age group of seven to 17 years from 364 schools across 250 cities and towns.

According to the study, with strict lockdowns which have helped reduce the spread of virus, accepting the new normal has become routine. Although lockdowns have reduced the spread of Covid-19, it might be responsible for sedentary lifestyles.

This nature of lifestyle has immensely impacted the children, with online classes and minimum or no physical activity, which has taken a big toll on their physical health and fitness as well as mental health.
