Chennai: After two months, new Covid-19 cases went below 10,000 in Tamilnadu with 9,118 cases and 210 deaths recorded in 24 hours ending Thursday.
Total number of infections in the State touched 23,97,864. After 22,720 persons were discharged, the total number of active cases stood at 1,00,523. Recovery rate is 94.5 per cent.
There were 1,75,010 samples tested. The weekly average of test positivity rate, however, has not come down below 15 per cent in many districts.
The weekly average of new cases dropped to 12,718, compared to 19,441 on June 10 a week ago. Over the same period, average daily deaths dropped from 409 to 289.
Coimbatore had the highest number of cases with 1,227; followed by Erode with 1,041; Chennai had 559 and all the other districts with less than 1,000 cases, according to Health Department data.
