Chennai: The newly set up Economic Advisory Council of the Tamilnadu government will soon meet Chief Minister M K Stalin, sources said.
The team has been formed to chart out a rapid and inclusive economic growth path for the State. It will hold frequent meetings to devise strategies, sources added.
Delivering his customary address to the newly constituted 16th Legislative Assembly, Governor Banwarilal Purohit said on Monday: “In recent years, we have seen a slowdown in Tamilnaduās economic growth rate.”
The DMK government will make all out efforts to reverse this trend and usher in a period of rapid economic growth taking full advantage of the available limited window of the demographic dividend, he said.
“To chart out a rapid and inclusive economic growth path for Tamilnadu, the Government will constitute an Economic Advisory Council to the Chief Minister with leading economic experts from all over the world as its members.”
The Council will include Nobel Laureate Prof. Esther Duflo of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, Prof Raghuram Rajan, former Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Dr Arvind Subramanian, former Chief Economic Advisor to the Union Government, Prof Jean Dreze, Development Economist and Dr S Narayan, former Union Finance Secretary, he said.
Based on the recommendations of this Council, the government will revitalise the Stateās economy and ensure that the benefits of economic growth reach all segments of society, Purohit said.
The Governor also said a white paper on the true state of Tamilnadu’s Finance will be released next month.
