TN govt to set up post-Covid clinics

Chennai: Setting up of post Covid clinics in government hospitals, two industrial facilities that would create job opportunities for 22,000 people, withdrawal of defamation cases against media and those who protested against the Centre’s Farm laws and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and are among a slew of announcements made by Tamilnadu Chief Minister M K Stalin Thursday.

Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address in the State Assembly, he said taking into account the reports of post-Covid complications, post-Covid clinics would be set up with specialist doctors in all the Government Medical College and Hospitals in the State.

He said as part of giving functional shape to some announcements made in the Governor’s address, two new industries would be set up in Northern Tamilnadu.

As part of providing job opportunities to youth and women and to give a fillip for industrial development in Northern parts of Tamilnadu, new industries would be set up at Cheyyar and Tindivanam that would create job opportunities for 12,000 and 10,000 people respectively.

Stalin also announced that defamation cases filed against media by the previous AIADMK-regime and those who protested against the three Farm laws and CAA enacted by the Centre would be withdrawn.

He also said cases against those who protested against Neutrino, eight lane Salem-Chennai expressway project and coal-bed methane projects would also be dropped.

Apart from reviving the 240 Samathuvapurams (equality habitats) set up in the name of Rationalist leader Periyar by the DMK government headed by M Karunanidhi, Stalin also announced that new Samathuvapurams would also be set up.

As part of the DMK’s election promise of renovating all Hindu temples at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore, he announced that in the first phase, Rs 100 crore would be allotted for renovating 100 temples, tanks and chariots and the works would be taken up this year.
