
Mumbai: Actor Dilip Kumar, who was admitted to Hinduja Hospital on 29 June after reportedly developing health complications, breathed his last today morning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the passing away of the veteran Bollywood actor saying, ‘He will be remembered as a cinematic legend.’
Taking to his official Twitter account, the Prime Minister said, “Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP.”
The sad news of Dilip Kumar’s demise was confirmed by his family friend Faisal Farooqui on the legendary actor’s official Twitter handle.
Dr Faisal tweeted: With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. – Faisal Farooqui.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed grief on veteran actor’s demise. ‘His demise is monumental loss to the Indian cinema,’ the Union Minister said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also tweeted about the loss. “My heartfelt condolences to the family, friends & fans of Dilip Kumar ji. His extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema will be remembered for generations to come,” he wrote.
Soon as the news broke out several fans and members of Bollywood film fraternity including Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee and others offered their condolences on social media.
Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan penned a heartfelt note for the star. He wrote that he is deeply saddened by the loss and that an institution has gone. His full note read as, ‘T 3958 – An institution has gone .. whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written , it shall always be ‘before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar’ .. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss .. Deeply saddened …’
Ajay Devgn, who was privileged to have shared a moment with Dilip Kumar expressed his sorrow and mourned the look as he posted a picture with the late actor and said, “Shared many moments with the legend…some very personal, some on stage. Yet, nothing really prepared me for his passing away. An institution, a timeless actor. Heartbroken. Deepest condolences to Sairaji.”
