Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday announced extenstion of Covid lockdown by one more week with additional relaxations.
In a statement here, he said the lockdown, which was introduced since 10 May, has been extended by every week with phased relaxations in a bid to control the spread of the pandemic.
The latest lockdown, which came to an end today morning, has been extended by one more week till the morning of 19 July.
While the existing relaxations already announced will continue, inter-State public and private transport services, barring Puducherry, will continue.
International air services, except those allowed by the Union government, theatres, bars, swimming pools, social and political meetings involving public, recreational articities, schools and colleges and Zoological parks would continue to remain shut.
While only 50 people would be allowed to take part in marriage functions in a bid to control the virus spread, only 20 people were allowed in funerals and last rites, Stalin said.
Apart from continuance of existing relaxations already put in place except in containment zones, all tea shops, hotels, restaurants, bakeries, roadside eateries sweets and savoury outlets were allowed to open till 9 pm, an extentsion of one more hour.
The Chief Minister also announced that all Standard Operating Procedures put in place by the government, including using of hand sanitisers, wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing and regular washing of hands should be followed to prevent the virus spread.
