Chennai: Caste names of leaders and scholars have been removed from the newly printed Tamilnadu school books.

U V Swaminthan Iyer has been mentioned as U V Swaminathar, Namakkal Kalyana Ramalingam Pillai is changed to Ramalingam and Meenakashi Sundaram Pillai has been changed to Meenakshi Sundaranar in the recently printed 12 text books.

Sources said that this will be followed in the coming years as well. It may be noted that Dindigul Leoni was recently appointed as the orator head of the Tamilnadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation.

Meanwhile, the State government has announced that technical institute students can travel for free in government buses. It may be noted that technical institutes were allowed to function from 19 July.
