Chennai: Despite the lack of releases in Kollywood movies and songs during the pandemic, the love for all things filmy continues to be a part of what Tamil audiences watch and listen to.
To highlight how filmy music is such an important part of our lives across the country, Spotify looked at data from three months (1 April to 30 June, 2021) to see what listeners across different regions of India have been listening to.
In Chennai, artistes from across generations featured in the list of most listened to Kollywood voices, with the top 10 most streamed artists being A R Rahman, Santhosh Narayanan,
Anirudh Ravichander, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Sid Sriram, the late S P Balasubrahmanyam, G
V Prakash, Harris Jayaraj, Hariharan and Hiphop Tamizha.
The top 10 most streamed Kollywood movie songs included Vaathi Coming and Master the
Blaster – Background Score (‘Master’), Mangalyam (‘Eeswaran’), Jai Sulthan (‘Sulthan’), Bujji
and Rakita Rakita Rakita (‘Jagame Thandhiram’), Chellamma (‘Doctor’), Yaar Azhaippadhu
(‘Maara’), Kandaa Vara Sollunga (‘Karnan’), and the male version of Yaen Ennai Pirindhaai
(‘Adithya Varma’).
