Chennai: Following an order from the Madras High Court, actor Vijay has paid tax for his luxury car Rolls Royce which he had imported from the UK in 2012.
Remember the actor filed a petition seeking to exempt entry tax for his Rolls Royce. The Madras High Court slapped a fine of Rs one lakh on the actor for filing petition and Justice Subramaniam observed that paying tax is not a philanthropic act.
“It is a duty. People see actors as real heroes. They should not behave like reel heroes. Tax evasion is anti-national and un constitution. These actors portray themselves as champions of social justice in the society. But in reality, they are trying to evade paying taxes,” he had said.
Vijay meanwhile filed a review petition seeking to quash observations against him. He agreed to pay the tax. Today, he paid the same.
