Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin announced in the State Assembly that the Tamilnadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) on Wednesday will be re-christened as Tamilnadu Urban Habitat Development Board to upgrade the standard of living of the poor people.
Making an announcement in the House during the debate on the demand for grants for the SCB department, Stalin said this name change is being done not only to change the huts, but also to raise the standard of living of the people residing in these tenements.
Recalling that late leader M Karunanidhi had formed the TNSCB soon after becoming the Chief Minister for the first time to upgrade the standard of living of the poor people, he said several thousands of tenements have been built for the poor people under thie board.
Stalin recalled that even the then Union Minister Babu Jagajeevan Ram, affectionately called as ‘Bapuji’, hailed the scheme and wanted it to be replicated in other states.
