
Tokyo: India added two more medals to its tally in Tokyo Paralympics today. Praveen Kumar won silver in high jump while Avani Lekhara bagged a bronze in shooting. The blatter earlier won a gold in shooting in a different category.
Praveen cleared the Asian record with a 2.07m jump which helped him clinch India’s fourth silver in men’s high jump and 11th medal overall at the Games.
Congratulating Praveen, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Proud of Praveen Kumar for winning the Silver medal at the #Paralympics. This medal is the result of his hard work and unparalleled dedication. Congratulations to him. Best wishes for his future endeavours. #Praise4Para.”
Abhinav Bindra, India’s first ever individual gold medallist at the Olympics, also congratulated Praveen.
Avani managed a third-place finish in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. She became the first Indian to win two medals at a single Paralympics. Also she is only the fourth Indian after Joginder Singh Bedi, Mariyappan Thangavelu and Devendra Jhajharia to win multiple medals at the Paralympics.
Haiping her feat, Modi tweeted, “More glory at the Tokyo #Paralympics. Elated by the stupendous performance of @AvaniLekhara. Congratulations to her on bringing home the Bronze medal. Wishing her the very best for her future endeavours. #Praise4Para”.
