Chennai: A total of 4,387 cases of mucormycosis of black fungus cases were reported in Tamilnadu as on 28 August this year, Health Minister M Subramanian informed the State Assembly recently.
He said as part of Mucormycosis management, Task Force Committee with medical experts has been constituted and detailed treatment protocol has been issued.
He said 1.48 lakh vials of Liposomal Amphotericin B Inj-50mg, 2.5 lakh Posaconazole Tab 10 0mg and 7,000 vials of Posaconazole Inj 300 mg were procured and adequate stock is maintained.
On strategies being adopted to manage the disease, he said Chief Minister M K Stalin held discussions with Medical Experts, District Collectors, Representatives of Political Parties, Non Government Organisations, Industrial representatives, Media representatives.
He also visited districts and also interacted with Covid-19 patients following due protocol. A Task Force Committee on Covid-19 management under Dr R Poornalingam (Retired IAS Officer) has been constituted and Unified Command Centre/ War-rooms were established at Chennai and District Headquarters, to co-ordinate bed/oxygen availability through State/District Call Centres.
He said symptomatic surveillance and symptomatic treatment protocol have been put in place.
