Puducherry: After a gap of 15 years, the State Election Commission has geared up to hold the local body elections in Puducherry.
It is to be noted that civic polls have not been held in the Union Territory after the term of representatives elected in 2006 expired in June 2011.
On 25 October, polls would be held for the Puducherry and Oulgaret Municipalities and the last phase would be held for the five commune panchayats in Puducherry region on 28 October. Counting of votes would be held on 31 October.
State Election Commissioner Roy P Thomas told reporters after releasing the poll schedule that the statutory notification for the first phase of poll slated for 21 October for the Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam municipalities and also for the commune panchayats of Kottucherry, Nedungadu, Neravy, Tirumalairayanpattinam and Tirunallar (all in Karaikal region) would be issued on 30 September to set the poll process in motion.
Voting hours are 7 am to 6 pm. Corona patients can cast their votes between 5 pm and 6 pm.
