Chennai: Around 80 per cent of India’s water is severely polluted because of direct dumping of raw sewage, silt, garbage, and highly toxic industrial discharges into rivers and lakes, says Ravichandran Purushothaman, president, Danfoss India, quoting reports.
A stellar example of this is the pollution of the Ganga river due to growing urbanisation and industrialisation along its banks.
‘This has worsened the current national challenge of providing clean and safe drinking water to all citizens. This problem is not unique to India; it is estimated that by 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages,’ he adds.
According to Ravichandran, recognising the imminent water crisis, Danfoss has invested greatly in circular thinking and building energy-efficient solutions to promote water conservation, as well as wastewater management.
