R Indira Kumari

Chennai: Three persons including former Minister R Indira Kumari, her husband Babu and a retired IAS official have been convicted in a misappropriation of funds case filed in 1996.

A special court for MLAs and MPs has sentenced them to five-year imprisonment. Indira Kumari, who was in the court, suffered breathing difficulty and chest pain after the verdict was pronounced. She was taken her medical treatment.

Indira Kumari was the Social Welfare Minister in the AIADMK regime during 1991-96 and joined DMK in 2006.

The verdict was issued in a case which was filed against Indira Kumari for misusing Rs 15.45 lakh from the government which they had promised to start a trust.

Venkatakrishnan who was associated with the case was released and another accused Kirubakaran had passed away.
