Amarinder Singh to join BJP?

Chennai: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the latter’s residence in New Delhi on Wednesday has led to strong speculations that the Congress leader would join the BJP. The meeting comes ahead of the crucial Punjab Assembly elections.

‘Met Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji in Delhi. Discussed the prolonged farmers’ agitation against farm laws & urged him to resolve the crisis urgently with repeal of the laws and guuarantee of MSP, besides supporting Punjab in crop diversification,’ Singh tweeted after the meeting.

While sources close to Captain said ‘all his options are open’, those in the BJP said the party is ‘keen to work with the Captain, but a resolution needs to be reached over the farmers’ protests’.

The miffed former CM reached Delhi on Tuesday amid speculation about his future course of action, in the light of the ‘treatment’ meted out to him that led to him ultimately stepping down as the Punjab Chief Minister.

Singh’s meeting with Amit Shah throws up two collaboration options between the former Chief Minister and the BJP in the Punjab Assembly election. Amarinder Singh may float a party and tie-up with the BJP for the Punjab Assembly polls.
