Chennai: The Supreme Court has said that promotion for government staff should be given based on their performance score and seniority. The court has also asked the TNPSC to implement this within 12 weeks.
The verdict was delivered based on a petition which stated that promotions were not given based on seniority.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court on Tuesday gave the Union government four months to issue the necessary instructions to give reservation benefits in promotion to persons with disabilities, telling the Centre that there was no ambiguity in its January 2020 verdict and the Centre should start implementing the provision under the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
A Bench led by Justice L. Nageswara Rao dismissed an application filed by the Centre seeking ‘clarifications’ in a 14 January, 2020 judgment of the apex court confirming that PwDs have a right to reservation in promotions.
