Chennai: Tamilnadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan on Thursday was a bit embarrassed when CISF personnel at the Chennai airport stopped him at the scanning area for carrying two laptops.
He came to the Kamaraj Domestic airport to board an IndiGo Airlines flight to Tuticorin when the incident took place.
Sources said, when the CISF men asked him the reason for carrying two laptops, Rajan, identified himself as the Finance Minister and said he was carrying it for official works.
He also told the CISF officials that there was no rule that barred a passenger from carrying two laptops, leading to a minor commotion. However, senior CISF and airport officials came to the spot and sorted out the issue after which Palanivel Thiagarajan boarded the flight.
The sources attributed the incident to a communication gap as the CSIF men always speak in Hindi where as Rajan was talking to them in English and Tami, which they could not understand.
A senior airport official said the CISF personnel had asked the Minister to take out the laptops and keep them on the tray for scanning which is the normal procedure. But Palanivel Thiagarajan thought mistook it as security official saying that he could board the flight with two laptops.
However, the issue was resolved after the intervention of senior airport officials, who said that there was no bar in carrying more than laptop.
