Chennai: Observing that all the welfare measures announced by the government will reach the people through the local bodies, Tamilnadu Chief Minister and DMK president has appealed to the voters to vote for the DMK-led Front in the rural local body elections in nine new districts of the state.

Ordinary elections are scheduled in nine new districts of Chengalpattu, Kallakurichi, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tirupattur, Vellore and Villupuram in two phases on October six and nine.  A total of 79,433 candidates are in the fray contesting for 23,998 posts in these nine districts.

In a video address to the voters of nine districts, Stalin outlined the various schemes launched by the DMK government in a short span of time ever since it came to power after a gap of ten years in May this year.

Stating that the government will implemented more such schemes, he said people’s support was crucial for implementing these schemes.

‘However great they may be, schemes can reach people only through the local bodies. Your votes are important for their implementation,’ he said in his message.

Recalling the DMK-led Front’s resounding win the May Assembly polls, the Chief Minister said, ‘you voted for us in the Assembly elections and you should vote for us in the local body polls also. You voted for us with the hope that we would implement the promises made during the elections. You made me the Chief Minister of the State and I have been working for you and fulfilling promises.’

Alleging that the AIADMK, which was in power for 10 years had failed to fulfil the promises made by it in the last two Assembly polls, the Chief Minister said the DMK government has created history in India by fulfilling 202 of the 505 promises made during the Assembly polls in a span of four months.

‘Of all the governments in the Indian subcontinent, such faster pace of implementation can only be attributed to the DMK government’, he added.  ‘Make use of us, order us, we will work for your welfare’, he told the voters.
