Chennai: Tamilnadu’s third survey shows a sero-prevalence of 70 per cent across the State with the districts of Virudhunagar, Tenkasi and Chennai being the highest at 88 per cent, 83 per cent and 82 per cent respectively. In the surveys done earlier, the State showed a sero-prevalence of 32 per cent in October-November last year and 29 per cent this April.
Chennai and Coimbatore, which have been the hotspots, have reported the seropositivity at 82 per cent and 71 per cent in the third sero survey conducted between July and August. The Virudhunagar district is at the top spot in the list with 88 per cent of the population.
‘The overall sero prevalence was 70 per cent and the highest sero positivity was observed in Virudhunagar at 84 per cent,’ the report said.
Serosurvey or Seroprevalence studies are based on analysis of antibodies collected through blood sample collection.
