Chennai: The State-level Disha Committee headed by Chief Minister MK Stalin will be monitoring the implementation of Centrally-sponsored schemes such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana, National Rural Livelihood Mission, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana etc.
The Tamil Nadu State Level District Development Coordination and Monitoring (Disha) Committee has been constituted with Stalin as its chairperson, the government said on Friday.
The functions of the Disha panel, set up to monitor implementation of various schemes of the Central government at district level, includes evaluation of the progress of initiatives, removal of obstacles and making appropriate recommendations.
Minister for Rural Development, K R Periakaruppan, would be the deputy chairman, and Principal Secretary for Rural Development Department shall be the Member-Secretary, an official release here said, adding that the committee has been set up in accordance with the union government”s guidelines.
Among the members of the committee are MPs (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha), MLAs, and government officials.
‘The meetings of the Disha Committee should be held at least once every six months. It will take all necessary measures to ensure flow of benefits of various programmes to the rural poor,’ the G.O issued in this regard by Rural Development Secretary K Gopal said.
‘The committee will address implementation constraints and give suggestions to improve designs and approved programmes or make mid-course corrections,’ said the government order. The committee would take all necessary measures to ensure that programmes benefit flow to the rural poor in full measure.
The committee will review flow of funds in fulfillment of state’s obligations in relation to various programmes and projects, besides reviewing constraints impeding the timely implementation of various projects and resolution of land issues, if any. It will look into complaints/alleged irregularities received in respect of the implementation of the programmes, including complaints of wrong selection of beneficiaries, misappropriation/diversion of funds and recommend follow-up action, the order stated.
