Chennai: The number of Covid-19 cases in Tamilnadu is seeing a declining trend with 1,303 new cases recorded on Monday. Chennai recorded the highest number of 168 cases in the State, followed by 128 cases in Coimbatore. All other districts reported less than 100 cases. With this, the total number of cases in the State has reached 26,79,568.
Twenty nine districts reported fewer than 50 new cases each and 17 of them reported less than 20 cases each. With two new cases Perambalur was at the bottom of the new cases table followed by Tenkasi (4), Ariyalur (7), Theni (7) and Thirupathur (7).
With 13 more patients succumbing to the disease, the death toll has gone up to 35,796. The total recoveries have gone up to 26,27,780 including 1,428 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma Subramanian said the State registered 67 per cent coverage of the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 11.02 lakh persons out of 25 lakh beneficiaries due for the second dose have already received the shots. The rest would be covered soon.
