
Chennai: Union Minister of State for Fisheries L Murugan has urged External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar’s intervention to ensure the safe and timely release of 23 fishermen who have been arrested allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy.
He received a memorandum from representatives of 66 fishermen villages from Nagapattinam, Karaikal and Mayiladuthurai, a press release said.
Murugan assured them of all possible help to secure the release of the fishermen, the release added.
In his letter, Murugan requested Jaishankar for the safe and timely release of 23 fishermen along with two boats.
