Chennai: Fuel rates rallied to their highest ever levels across the country today, as petrol prices increased by 30 to 35 paise per litre and diesel prices hiked by 33 to 37 paise a litre, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

In Chennai, a litre of petrol is priced at Rs 102.70. On Saturday, the price of a litre of diesel was Rs 98.59 per litre.

In Mumbai, petrol can be bought at Rs 111.43 per litre which is higher by 34 paise and diesel costs Rs 102.15 for one litre, expensive by 37 paise.

This is the 15th hike in gasoline prices and the 18th increase in diesel prices since the end of a three-week rate revision respite in the last week of September.

Petrol and diesel prices are revised by the oil marketing companies including Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum. The new prices are implemented at 6 am every day.
