New Delhi: Farmers blocked the Delhi-Chandigarh and Delhi-Amritsar railway routes at Haryana’s Karnal today in response to a country-wide rail roko call to protest against the violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur-Kheri that left eight dead.

The violence was triggered after a car ran over a group of protesting farmers. Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son, Ashish Mishra, has been arrested in connection with the violence.

Northern Railway has informed that 30 locations have been affected and eight trains have been regulated following the rail roko protests.

Farmers in Punjab and elsewhere were seen squatting on rail tracks as part of their protest. Four sections of the Ferozepur division were blocked by the protesters, said a railway official.

Meanwhile, Ajay Mishra has blamed the local police in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri for violence in Tikunia village, in which eight people were killed. The Minister’s son is the prime accused in the case. He is in judicial custody and being interrogated.
